We have had a fabulous summer! It was pretty
low key, with Brock taking 4 summer courses - he was pretty busy. The
weather was sorta all over the map, so we took advantage of the nice days and
lucked out with great weather every Friday for our trips to Grandma's house to
go swimming!
Tyson had a great summer! One big note of
news is the fact that I taught Tyson how to use a straw and he now drinks from
a water bottle and not his sippy cups anymore!! So huge!! I started
by putting a straw in his sippy cup and he managed to learn how to suck up
without tilting his cup! Big deal! Then one day Ty was asking for
some water and I offered him Courtney's water bottle and he drank from it!!
It was a huge shock!! Ty has never even accepted a different type of
sippy cup! So huge! He even will use different straws and different
cups for me - he prefers his water bottle but I am trying to keep exposing him
to other straws so he doesn't get so attached again. Big win!! Ty
is also talking more. He seems to be using more 2 word phrases instead of
just 1 word, all on his own. Like he will ask me to give his play doh guy
brown hair instead of just saying hair and handing me the brown. He is
parroting us more and is using phrases he hears from Court or us in context
more. Stuff like - Go bath! Gotta go potty! Figure it out! Big trouble!
How are you? Calm down. That's my stuff! He also talks a lot at the zoo.
We were looking at the owls and he said - So cute! They're so
close! He likes to howl with the wolves. And he will say- what animal do
you see? And on one special morning at my parents, Ty was swimming in the pool
and I was taping him swimming. He looked right at me and said - I love
(or want) Mommy. Hi Mommy!. It was a first and it was awesome.
I was so happy to have been taping him at the time too. And just
this past weekend, Ty was having a tantrum and after I was sitting on the couch
with him and ty said - mommy's sad. and then he took my cheeks and made me
smile. It was really adorable and very sweet.
Courtney has also had a great summer!
Courtney has really progressed to big girl status! She is fully
potty trained and we recently got rid of her soother! Courtney has also
grown a ton! None of her clothes fit and she basically skipped size 3T
and went straight to 4T. She is a sweet girl and is always so happy and
friendly. She is always singing and dancing, drawing a million pictures
and playing in her kitchen and with her hair and make up stuff. She loves
to help mommy with everything and is my little buddy and big helper. That being
said, a very sassy, bossy, and sometimes very bratty side of her has also come
out this summer. We are deep in the theenager phase and it is not very
much fun. We are trying our hardest to be patient but to also discipline
and correct. Hopefully we come out the other side with a sweet little
girl who thinks of others and has nice manners. It is also interesting to
note that not all of Ty's behaviors are just because he has autism, sometimes
its just because 3 year olds suck and with him kinda sticking at age 3 for
three years - this kind of behavior (x2) kinda blows and is getting old.
Looking forward to the big kid phase!!
Another fun morning at Grandma's house in the pool!
This was the first day that Ty was really into it. He wouldn't let
go of me the entire time, but loved bouncing around with Mommy.
